It's a little too early to tell but I COMPLETELY went off on a rant there and I expect to be reamed for it.

http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?p=3199063#post3199063

But dude, NOTHING raises my ire more than people pulling the "Jim Henson would be rolling over in his grave" schtick. It's an insult to his memory whenever internet fanboys harp on his family like that and it royally cheeses me off. I'll take whatever lumps are owed me. I said it there but that rant was a LOOOOONNNG time coming.

The most exciting news to me is that they are already working on the second and final set. I was REALLY worried the superior second season would only come to DVD solely based on sales of the first set which I am a little bit wary of as it's kind of shaky.

Bad news: the Kids WB! first season only contained 11 episodes. I was hoping they'd include the TRUE first season finale (Zero Hour) which originally aired as the second season's premiere and the "lost" episode Ro's Reunion. Thankfully, they'll both be on the next set but I was kinda hoping they'd give people extra incentive to buy the first one.

Still, this is the set that contains the only "true" Batman Beyond crossover (Shadows) even though there was a crossover of sorts featuring Mind Games' Brain Trust in Ro's Gift. So that should help sales a bit.

Static Shock, you're next! (Also peers longingly in Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures' direction).

Brad already has a post on this but what he DIDN'T mention is that The Zeta Project is one of the titles being considered by WHV for a DVD release. PLEASE vote for it, DCAU fans. I already commented "I would crawl through five miles of broken glass and monkey vomit to see a DVD release for The Zeta Project".

I SERIOUSLY wish Paramount Home video was considering a DVD release for Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures. Then I could die happy.

Posted this on Toon Zone and in the thread about this very subject and thought it would make a decent journal entry.

Best cartoons based on a comic book:

10. X-Men TAS: REALLY cool cartoon and probably the most serious Marvel effort ever. Far from perfect but makes those Ultimate Avengers and Iron Man DTVs look like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

9. Static Shock: Underrated Superhero toon that I really like. Fun and colorful with wacky villains.

8. The Batman: ONLY reason this awesome cartoon isn't higher is because the first season sucked and seasons two and three were kind of shaky. The current season it is running is better than MOST DCAU seasons taken on the whole with the exception of JLU seasons one and two, and the first seasons of Batman Beyond and Superman TAS.

7. Teen Titans: REALLY fun cartoon that wrapped up in an excellent DTV movie. Another really underrated cartoon.

6. X-Men: Evolution: Started off REALLY weak but like The Batman got steadily better as it went on. By the end of the series it was top-notch.

5. Spider-Man TAS: The biggest flaw to this series is that it tried to take on too much at once and had crappy editting. But BECAUSE of that crappy editting we got most of the major Spider-Man stories in 65 episodes.

4. Batman Beyond: The second season sucked but the first and last seasons were really good.

3. Batman TAS/ TNBA: Deserves to be this high up because it really deserves all of the laurels rested upon it. Other dramatic cartoons like JLU and Gargoyles may have surpassed it in quality but those cartoons wouldn't even exist without BTAS.

2. Superman TAS: Criminally underrated, STAS is probably the second best superhero cartoon of all time. I think what makes it so strong is the fact that the stories were good and solid and for the first time ANYWHERE Superman seemed cool instead of lame.

1. Justice League/ Unlimited: My favorite superhero cartoon EVER. Heck, I think it may be my favorite cartoon period. Or TV show period. I love the writing and the characters and the fact it tied everything in the DCAU together. It was the ultimate DCAU series and I appreciated that.

Honorable Mentions

DuckTales. Hardly the most faithful adaptation of a comic book ever but still appreciated for bringing Carl Barks wonderful stories to life for younger audiences.

The Tick: Hilarious cartoon and one of the funniest Saturday morning cartoons ever.

Best "Comic Bookish" cartoons

4. The Zeta Project: This Batman Beyond spin-off had an average first season but became really kick-butt in season two. I will always argue that it had the best character development out of all of the DCAU toons.

3. The Incredibles. Really is one of the best superhero cartoons ever even if it isn't actually based on a comic book.

2. Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures is a brilliant send-up of superhero toons (even more so than The Tick). Didn't make the list only because it isn't actually based on a comic book. Needs a DVD release BADLY.

1. Gargoyles: My favorite superhero cartoon that isn't actually about superheroes. ALL of the plots seem to be right out of a superhero comic with the exception of the fact that they were all wildly unpredictable.

Reviews for the DTV movie The Invincible Iron Man, Six episodes of the Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, Dr. Seuss' Butter Battle Book, Horton Hatches the Egg and Daisy Head Mayzie cartoons, the Stephen King novel Eyes of the Dragon, and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #676.

Two quick things before I begin. The Iron Man movie is a complete turd. If this painfully "adult oriented" storytelling is what we can expect for the upcoming DC Comics DTVs than I am looking even less forward to them.

Two: Butter Battle Book is AWESOME. Ralph Bakshi directed and produced it and got together most of the big names from his staff at Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures including Tom Minton, Jim Reardon and Kent Butterworth. Mighty Mouse: TNA needs a DVD release NOW. It's top of the list of things that I want released on DVD, even ahead of The Zeta Project.

Why do good people have to die so young? I'm always scared of people I really like dying.

Shirley was a great composer. I loved her Batman theme more than Danny Elfman's. She knew how to make the music sound herioc and she made great themes for all of the individual characters. I am so sad that this happened.

I used to play the piano and I hope that they will come out with sheet music for Shirley's DCAU stuff eventually. I also think they should release a DCAU soundtrack. I am so sad this happened.

Good. All we need is Static Shock, The Zeta Project, and Gotham Girls (and the lost BTAS episode) and we'll have the entire DCAU on DVD. I wish it was coming sooner than March but I guess it's good for people to be able to save up their money after Christmas.

Hi guys, I just realized that I can either b**** about the death of the DCAU, or I can do something about it. I think another letter-writing campaign may be just what the doctor ordered.

I think THIS letter-writing campaign has a greater chance for success than any other because DC has openly said they are looking into fans imput of what stories they want to see adapted next. If this is the case, I HAVE to think that if enough people say they want further DCAU stuff and want to see resolutions of their favorite characters and stories (Nightwing, the proposed time-travel arc with the JLU and Batman Beyond, Zeta, The Near Apocalypse of '09, World's Collide, etc.) then DC will HAVE to listen. If we simply don't let DC know that the DCAU is a big part of the reason people were so excited with these DTVs then we shouldn't expect the DCAU to come back anytime soon.

What do you guys think? I've made a couple of unrelated posts at Toon Zone lately and I think a letter-writing campaign might be a good idea. I also need some imput for an address to send letters to DC so we can all write to the same place. If DC Comics REALLY wants to give the fans what they want then they will HAVE to take our suggestions seriously.

WHV Chat!

I'm just bummed that there is still no Static Shock or Zeta Project. But I'm very happy about the news for releases of season sets for WB and CN shows. I was also happy that Batman Beyond is releasing the full second season. I just want to know if the first season of JLU will have 13 or 26 episodes. :(

And after reading that chat, can I just say that music rights piss me off beyond belief? Seriously, there HAS to be a way to release our favorite shows without changing the music or keeping them in DVD hell. I keep being reminded of the South Park episode where Stan , Kyle and Kenny download songs from the internet but are made to feel bad about it by FBI agents because some musicians can only afford one island or only one helicopter. There has to be something done to stop this. Copyrights shouldn't have to ruin DVD releases. End rant.

I am also tickled pink that Daffy Dork managed to get a question answered. I should have tried that.

I wish Paramount Home Video sometimes did a chat. I want Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures released like you can't believe.

I still haven't decided whether or not to post this on Toon Zone.

I would greatly love input from Style 92, 90's Cartoon Man and Merlin Missy. Please.

Style has a theory of how Teen Titans fits into both The Batman's universe AND the DCAU using the idea of infinite universes. The only problem is that without something to outright say that they are different universes it will always just be speculation. I personally want a Crisis Type JLU story which will show a conflict so huge spanning different universes and time periods so we could see the DCAU Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman, Batman Beyond, Static, Zeta, the Titans and the Justice League meet The Batman, Teen Titan's Robin and Titans, the new version of Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes, the Supergirl version, all of the Superfriends, Duck Dodgers, Krypto the Superdog and Scooby Doo. It should be a thirteen episode miniseries and feature all of the favorite heroes and villian teaming up in a time-spanning Crisis to save the universe or the world's supply of yo-yo polish or something.

It would also totally make me buy all of the DVD sets of Superfriends, Teen Titans and The Batman since I'd be likely to buy them all if they were all established DCAU canon. :)
