Yojimbo has been VERY helpful in getting me started but I do have a few questions about godaddy.com. There is a way to create a free website with ads. What kind of ads are these? Are they annoying pop-ups or simply static google type ads? If they are pop-ups I'd be more inclined to try to pay a monthly fee.
Is it possible to have an account paid directly from my bank account? Not having Paypal is the thing that worries me.
If I DO manage to set up a website (and I think I will) could somebody let me know how to do the technical aspects since I can barely use the computer? If someone would I'd need REALLY basic instructions (even telling me where to point and click and how to use certain Microsoft programs.)
This will be a learning experience for me and I could use all the help I can get. Thanks!

Matt, I didn't click the box to make you a maintainer yet. I thought I would see how it works when someone joins through an invite first. I just like to take things one step at a time. I'll make you a maintainer right away though.
Maybe you can make a welcome post.
There are a few other things in the profile I thought you may want to fill out too.

Date: 2006-07-27 08:50 pm (UTC)Essentially you get what you pay for. I've heard lots of good things about godaddy. Their prices aren't crazy and you get a space that isn't going to put people off with pop ups, invasive flash ads or bandwidth downtime.
There are places that do free hosting with ads, just avoid those with bandwidth restrictions as they suck if you want LOTS of people coming to your site!

They're, ummmm, complete...
Cartoonman, 90's, I see you are a member at the new community, but not a maintainer. Did you get an email or anything about that? I'd like to know how that's working.

Date: 2006-07-28 02:05 pm (UTC)I joined as soon as I saw it, and then I got the e-mail later, so it automatically made me a maintainer.

Date: 2006-07-28 04:28 pm (UTC)I think this link should send you to the right page. Just go to the "invitations" section.

And this is the manage accounts page. Just change your name to save_the_DCAU

The LJ controls need a great deal of impovrment. They're all over the place.
If the email gives you a link to follow, do that and it may clear the invitation.
