Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 1"
Saw the premise to this and was like, "Yeah."
And it's as fucked up as described but somehow even funnier than I expected. ****.
Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 2"
Debbie is sort of funny, but she's also this huge monster. The scenario is becoming alarming. ****.
Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 3"
One of the complications inherent in the premise is that William, who is suffering from Parkinson's, cannot go to the hospital or doctor if there is a medical emergency. They really did not think this through all the way. That disease is not going to get better in the years to come.
In British pop culture, they'll often reference American stuff. But in American stuff, they never mention stuff like Wallace and Gromit. This feels like an oversight. ***1/2.
Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 4"
The fart pillow gag was a gutbuster. I am not proud.
Pamela Anderson is pretty funny.
Good episode. ***1/2.
Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 5"
William running out of Parkinson's meds is one of those things the Fendons should have thought about ahead of time.
Dire ending. I DO think Debbie is a bit of a monster. ***1/2.
Can You Keep A Secret? "Episode 6"
Yeah, I don't want this show to come back.
Yes, it's unresolved with a minor cliffhanger. The thing is this is not the kind of premise that can sustain itself for seasons on end. I had been hoping for a six-episode one-and-done miniseries and this happened instead. I feel like each additional season will weaken the show. They should have bothered wrapping things up in this episode.
It's buying back Pamela's death that is the problem. Making Debbie regretful and not at all culpable sort of erases the hard edge she's been developing during the season. The show's indecisiveness here greatly weakens it. But just based on all of the buy-backs, they are not looking to turn Debbie into Walter White.
Love that the series title was called back again. Twice. I don't plan to watch this season again, but I am almost positive Jeanie not really being blind will actually play. Not a huge hindsight lift.
It was fun, but I was hoping for major fall-outs and disasters, and this basically took great pains to keep things cozy. A poisoning attempted murderer. Even Monk was never so soft-core.
The finale was a bit of a disappointment. ***.
