Also a review for the latest episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Daredevil: Born Again "Isle Of Joy"

I thought it was great, and it's nice that I don't have to hedge the week.

My favorite thing is my favorite thing because it's subtext. It's never made explicit. But people paying attention will get it. And I LOVE shit like that.

The truth is Matt is being all kinds of ass during the episode. I think him claiming Fisk sought out Heather to get to him doesn't fit the timeline. Yes, it's a crazy coincidence, but that's all comic book shit is. But from slamming Poindexter's face in the table, to just being the worst, most inattentive boyfriend ever, Matt Murdock is every bit the jerk cretin that made me hate the asshole in season 2 of his old show.

And here's the genius subtext. Before Matt slams Poindexter's face into the table in his assiest way, Poindexter says a good man will defend his most hated enemy. See how beautiful and symmetrical that ending is now? And the fact that the episode doesn't do a specific callback to that to help people in the audience who missed the connection is why it's great. You either get it or you don't. I got it. And it's great.

Creepy things always happen when Wilson and Vanessa dance.

Jack is the Swordsman? We thought so, but that instantly wants to make me see him in costume.

I had no clue B.B, knew Fisk killed Ben, but I'm delighted that's actually been her whole deal this entire time. Something tells me her and the Commish aren't going to compare notes after all however. The looks he was getting tell me he's in deep shit.

Vanessa killing Foggy actually makes more sense than Fisk doing it, but it raises questions why he put Poindexter in Gen Pop to begin with.

The whole thing with Adam was getting kind of pathetic not just for Adam, but for Wilson. Vanessa sort of put them BOTH out of their misery.

Very few negative notes this week. ****1/2.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit "The Accuser"

I've mentioned in previous reviews that D.A.s have discretion on what to charge. Angela is guilty of a horrific crime, and totally unrepentant. And yet Carisi gets her a plea without jailtime.

This happens a lot in similar circumstances, but I wish the franchise were more consistent about these things from episode to episode. The left hand doesn't always seem to know what the right is doing.

Erik Palladino had a recurring role on the show over 20 years ago as a detective, and it ALWAYS jars me that Law & Order always brings back major actors in different roles. I like his role here as the father though. He's extremely tough (I kind of love how he's actually upset at his son for lying to the police and wants him to tell the truth) and he handles the revelation about the abuse better than you'd think a guy like that would.

I hate runners, but in fairness, that was a pretty good use of the trope, and everybody was applauding Curry, so it was at least kind of funny.

Bruno says a horrible true thing about what he'd do if that was his kid, Finn's all "I feel you," and Bruno's like "I'm a cop. You shouldn't be agreeing with me." It reminds the viewer the actual reason Bruno was rich is he absolutely refused to cover for corruption in his former department. I was like, "Oh, yeah. This is an actual law-abiding cop. I totally forgot those existed."

My favorite moment was at the end when Sam asked Bruno if his future was Angela's, basically doomed to hurt other people. And damn, that's scary to think about. I will say this. He has something Angela didn't. People believe him. It's amazing this show has been on the air for over 30 years, and Liv makes the observation that 20 years ago, people like Eddie got away with shit like this because juries didn't understand sex abuse or what it does to memories and timelines. And I'm thinking maybe one of the reasons society understands that a little better might actually be SVU having been on the air for so long. That's a real-world answer to a fictitious idea, but yeah. I think Glee had a LOT to do with people accepting gayness in a way no other projects did. I think the same is probably true for the way SVU has informed people about sex abuse (minus the dark years Rick Eid was showrunner).

I thought it was good, and the lady who played Angela did a dynamite job. I sympathized with her greatly, but I also feared her, which is great. ****.

"Vanessa killing Foggy actually makes more sense than Fisk doing it, but it raises questions why he put Poindexter in Gen Pop to begin with."

- Well I think it WAS to actually get the prisoners to kill him off which I think actually over time WOULD have happened. Like part of me feels Pointdexter actually was earnest in wanting Matt to try and help him out and then was given a chance to escape because of that injury but yeah that only happened because of being assaulted in that specific way. if against other criminals when he wasn't really able to fight back he probably would have died so yeah Matt ironically coming to visit him even if he didn't technically help him is what ultimately got him off.

"The whole thing with Adam was getting kind of pathetic not just for Adam, but for Wilson. Vanessa sort of put them BOTH out of their misery."

- Yeah I'm not going to lie I kind of thought in episode 6 Wilson KILLED Adam since I couldn't imagine "oh really he just took him back to his cell what's the point of that" and only realized later "oh he just did so to get a chance to beat him up again" which I guess is understandable but yeah a bit pathetic. Like I'm someone who as a kid had issues with my aggression and needed to learn about maintaining my hostility towards others and yeah clearly aggression and anger is something Fisk still has major problems with, but using it on goobers you proven you can easily squash even with a weapon is pretty sad.

I don't think she did certainly not when he made that call as seemed like she was about to reveal it when they were dancing when she found out that Pointdexter got out of prison. Again, I didn't really watch season 3 but looking it up I did find out that it was Fisk who was the one who broke Pointdexter's back trying to kill him when he tried killing Fisk and Vanessa in the season 3 finale of that show. So obviously Fisk does want Pointdexter did so likely saw the opportunity of transferring him to a prison that would off him as a way to go about that.
