Also reviews for the latest episodes of Smallville and Battlestar Galactica.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold "The Fall of the Blue Beetle!"

I'm kinda bummed they killed off Ted Kord before the series began as I've always like his Blue Beetle best (from reading DCAU comics). I wish we had gotten him on JLU before the show ended in a team-up with Booster Gold.

The episode was well-written and paced but I did NOT buy Batman's reasons for not telling Blue Beetle about Ted. They were stupid and this was only used so that Jaime would do something reckless like looking for Ted himself. Batman is supposed to be the kind of person who WARNS people about the dangers of being a crime-fighter, not shield them from it.

Other than that the episode was pretty good. ***1/2.

Smallville "Bulletproof"

I liked this one because you sympathized completely with both Clark AND Green Arrow even though they were in conflict throughout. However I have to say I'm REALLY upset they went back to the Clark/ Lana well at the end. He belongs with Lois and Chloe is right that this isn't fair to her. Lana may not be as annoying as she used to be now that she knows Clark's secret but we've been through this so many times. Like Chloe temporarily forgetting Clark's secret this seems to be another case of the writers taking the characters backward instead of forward which was the worst part of Al Gough and Miles Millar's run on the show. There are a LOT of things that are clicking this season. I wish the new showrunners would stop trying to follow the Gough/ Millar model of cop-outs and setting things back to the beginning of the series. ***.

Battlestar Galactica "A Disquiet Follows My Soul"

This episode was VERY interesting because a lot of things felt VERY wrong on every level. Seeing Tigh watching the baby on the monitor with Caprica Six was just completely wrong and shocking as was the revelation that Nicky isn't actually Tyrol's son (which I'm afraid will drive him off Galactica). Add to that Gaeta shifting his loyalties to Tom Zarek and you realize that things are going to get REALLY frakked up by the end of the series.

Best moment was the final shot of Adama and Laura in bed together. FINALLY. Mary McDonnell is a VERY beautiful woman.

Good (but freaky) episode. ****.

It was awesome to see Ted in animation finally, but it seems like despite it's 1970's overtones, this show is going to have the latest heroes, no Ted, Ray, or Ronnie in the present. Bats was sort of acting out of character, you're right.

Smallville was pretty good, and I'm willing to give them some slack on the Lana front because things really weren't resolved at the end of last season. When her arc is over and she's finally gone for good, that'll, hopefully, be the end of it.

BATB: The DCAU was cool because with few exception JLU went with the original guys for the most part. Yeah, yeah, Flash and Green Lantern but I think those were the exceptions that proved the rule.

Smallville: This is a VERY good point. Thanks.

I like how BATB has even less restrictions, it seems. Granted, I loved the history and continuity of the DCAU, but the freshness of BATB is really enjoyable.

Deidrich Bader is awesome. He also voiced Zeta in The Zeta Project and was Oswald in The Drew Carey Show.
