Kent Brockman is a far superior character to Tom Tucker.
Tom doesn't act like a newsperson at all. He's got the entitled buttholishness of the media down pat, but other than that, there is nothing about him being a TV anchor that is remotely credible. The fact that he doesn't act like a reporter is actually part of the joke, but if you put him up next to Kent, you realize what a missed opportunity it is.
Kent Brockman is a VERY realistic character. A lot of local news channels having aging male anchors who travel in clichés and are completely buffoonish during interviews. Tom's buffoonish in interviews too, but he's cartoon buffoonish, not actual TV personality buffoonish. There is an uncomfortable reality to Kent that while it makes him VERY unlikable, also makes the clichés the show has him traffic in much more relatable. We see jackasses like this on our local news every night. "Eye on Springfield" and "Action News"? Those are actual things. I don't ever see a news anchor punching out a hooker on-camera at a motel. And I think Family Guy's political humor suffers from stuff like that. They are so interested in being big and funny they make it so they can't ever do good satire. And that's too bad.
The only news anchor you can trust on Fox is Kent Brockman.
