Joss Whedon complaint!
Sep. 29th, 2014 01:44 amI have always found Joss' overuse of British colloquialisms via Spike to be more than slightly annoying. But only after seeing season after season of Doctor Who, do I realize how totally embarrassing it actually is. The worst part is that he'll often use the lingo wrong. When Spike tells Riley to "Go back and have a nice, safe snog" does that make ANY sort of sense whatsoever? A snog is a kiss. Would you ever tell anyone to go back and have a nice safe kiss? Spike says British sayings but he doesn't actually talk like a British person would.
The worse example of this didn't even happen with Spike. It was in season seven with that annoying British Potential. She walks into the kitchen and brightly says "Oooooh! A biscuit! I LOVE biscuits!" Yes, Joss. We know you know that British people call cookies biscuits. That does NOT mean a British person would scream in delight upon seeing one in the same awestruck manner as reserved for someone seeing a flying car. The writer of that episode just wrote himself a Sunny D commercial. And that's embarrassing.
Honestly, I would think if Anthony Head was TRULY Joss' friend he'd tell him to knock it off, and that he is humiliating himself. That fact that that apparently never happened makes me think Head LIKES seeing Joss act so stupidly about British stuff. Like it's a private joke between him and the entirety of England. They're not laughing with you, Joss. They're laughing at you.
Had to get that off my chest.
