I'm with the religious right on this one and am completely AGAINST the death penalty...
Wait... What? The religious right is FOR the death penalty? You sure? They DO know the Catholic Church is opposed to it, right? Hmmm.
Well, as a Lutheran this news that the religious right are generally in FAVOR of grilling people makes little sense to me. In fact, by the neocons logic on most things it SHOULD be the heathen liberals who are for the death penalty.
As a Christian, I look at it like this. I love God and trust that He knows exactly what He is doing. He answers every one of our prayers even though the answer is sometimes "no". Any of those scum-sucking murderers will have to answer to Him (or Her) when they die. I have enough faith in God that he will expect Penance at the least and make their souls pay for their sins instead of automatically being let into Heaven.
However the Religious Right, as so often is the case with homosexuality and other "sins" (I still don't believe homosexuality is a sin simply because the craziest chapter of the Bible Leviticus says so) is fully convinced that God isn't a high enough judge. DESPITE saying that everything they do is for Him they have so little faith in Him/Her in doing what is right after the murderers die that they feel the need to punish the murderers and take their lives into their own hands. Nevermind that this is the argument they use against abortion (I STILL cannot figure out why more people aren't both for the Death penalty and pro-choice or against both). Their belief in God is so faint that they have to punish the scum-sucking murderers on THEIR own terms because the way God does His job is ineffectual.
Seriously. Being against the Death penalty should be a CONSERVATIVE point of view. I may be a liberal douche but don't make me feel like one because of THIS. I simply have enough faith in God that He or She will make sure that these crimes are answered for. That's God's business, not mine.
