Reign Of The Supermen

Okay, I have mixed feelings about that. But it doesn't change the fact that I loved and still love the first movie. This does not diminish the first part for me.

But it's confusing. People were able to follow this in the comic books? This had a whole bunch of characters I didn't know in situations I didn't really understand all that well. Okay, so Lex is joining the Justice League in the next movie? I dunno, the whole enterprise was outright weird.

I laughed at Lex believing that with Superman gone, he'd be Lois' rebound. Nice try.

"Excuse me, do you mind if we kick your @$$?" was a terrific action movie one-liner. I loved it.

Ultimately, that was fun, but I'm not really sure what happened or why Superman isn't dead. It doesn't take from the first part, but it was all a bit much for me. ***1/2.

DC Super Hero Girls Super Shorts "Speedy Delivery"

I like this version of Flash / Barry. ***1/2.

Star Trek: Discovery "Such Sweet Sorrow"

That was basically set-up for the big finale, but it was good set-up. That being said, I felt like many people were wasting too much time on goodbyes rather than preparing for the task at hand, which was beyond dire, but this is television. There is always time to waste for schmaltz.

So wait does Pike know about the Mirror Universe? How? Hmmm.

We seem to be tying into the Short Treks with Tilly's friend. I'm still curious how and why the ship is abandoned in the future, but I'm not sure if next week's stuff will link with that specific thread.

I don't like the bridge on the Enterprise. God help me, I know there are rights issues, but it's wrong. That being said, it's closer than the Kelvin movies for sure, even if it is too sleek and perfect. I recognize the bones of the original which is not true for the Abrams films.

This was rated TV-MA for a single s-bomb? Man, CBS is cautious. They really did NOT want anyone under 18 hearing that.

I still love Reno, even if Stamets doesn't.

I'm looking forward to next week. ****.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger "Shadow Selves"

Ooh! Mayhem! Very interesting origin story.

She's frightening. What's even more frightening is how ineffective and toothless her weaker half is now.

The stuff with the mice made me cringe.

I like that Tandy is tempted by Mayhem. She DOES get results.

I found the scene of Mayhem and the father on the street very interesting, especially the part where she speculated her soul might be in her other body.

I had no idea Tandy would actually touch a person without hope. That notion freaking terrifies me.

I love that the resolution was that Tyrone Cloaked Mayhem. That's going to make next week fun.

Great episode (per usual). ****1/2.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey Nabs Nebula!"

This show has an eclectic mix of heroes and villains. ***.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey, Rocket, And Groot Get Duped!"

I had never heard of Blackjack before, but now I pretty much love him.

Bad things? The kids on this show have such annoying voices.

The episode was funny and cartoony enough to recommend though. ****.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey Does Sorcerer Spring Cleaning!"

I like Doctor Strange's voice. The cloak is cute too. ****.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey And She-Hulk Smash Sandcastles!"

I like this Hulk. He's smart, speaks in full sentences, and is a whiz at sandcastles.

I am amused that Spidey takes the time to take off his Hawaiian shirt before saving the day.

Cute. ***1/2.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey And Miles Save The City From Trash"

I've always loved the colors of Hobgoblin and his glider.

I like that Spidey made him clean up his mess at the end.

Nice! ***.

The Orville "Sanctuary"

Per usual, amazing television.

This episode was very important to me, and I think very needed. I think the Moklans are absolutely disgusting aliens. And the show's biggest problem is that Bortus is a crew member while his entire society is entirely fudged up. Before this week, Bortus was actually a bit wishywashy when it came to the oppression his society was responsible for. He was a very hard character to like, especially since he seemed to tolerate a bigot like Clyden.

This week got rid of all of my concerns. Bortus isn't merely a decent guy for a Moklan. He's a decent guy, period. And I'll tell you the one way he's better than Worf on Star Trek. Worf was an unambiguously terrible father on every level you can think. Bortus is not amazing, simply because Clydun is always undercutting any good he could do for Topah. But he's a dang good father anyways.

I like the episode exploring the political ramifications of the Galactic Alliance always looking the other way from these dirtbags because they needed their weapons first against the Krill, and then the Kalon. It's interesting that the Council is talking about trying not to see other societies from strictly a human's perspective, and that it's intolerant to judge another culture based on our personal beliefs. I think that's a nice Star Trek platitude, but it doesn't hold any water. Tolerance is the defining characteristic of the humans. If they can see something is wrong, that means there actually is. And I liked the politics of the Council trying to figure out of the Maklons are bluffing over the leaving the Union, and the curveball that perhaps they'd get the Krill to ally with THEM, to the reality that just the Krill and Maklon won't cut it against the Kalon. And frankly, the humans on the Council were too worried about the potential of the Maklons leaving the Union. Frankly, if that is the sort of deal-breaker that causes the Maklons to want to leave the Union, I think the issue needs to be forced here and now. Otherwise they will have too much political power, and keep threatening to leave every time they get an unfavorable outcome. Really the safest thing for the stability of the Alliance is to call their bluff. If the Maklons got their way this time, this would happen over and over again. They needed this bit of rancor just to state what is and isn't appropriate for Alliance members.

This was a total Star Trek episode. Marina Sirtis guest starred of course, with appearances by Star Trek staples Ron Canada and Tony Todd. And Joe Menosky wrote it (who knew Mr. 47 was such a Dolly Parton fan?) and Frakes (no first name needed) directed it. It was the perfect Star Trek episode if Star Trek didn't misguidedly frown on spaceship battles.

And it had star power. Victor Garbor, Kelly Hu, Ted Danson. These are not typical actors you can get to guest star on ANY television show, much less in the same episode, and each in small supporting roles. Something tells me this show has caught fire in Hollywood, and now everyone wants to be on it. Next Gen had that same pull for many famous people but the show could never work out the proper schedules with it's most famous fans. It seems The Orville is much more successful in getting huge names for bit parts, if only for perhaps bragging rights.

This is currently my favorite show on television. Nothing else comes close. 5 stars. *****.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine "Casecation"

I kind of think the fact that Amy wanted kids and Jake didn't should have come up before this. Especially considering what an overplanner she is.

I love that Holt immediately grants Amy "oversight". This is not going to be as hard as she thought.

I love that Kevin and two other people are on the phone. What's amusing is that Jake is the only person there who understands this is totally insane.

That whole Pam twist blew my mind. I didn't see that coming. I love Julia Sweeney so much. She was wasted on SNL.

I love that Rosa thinks kids are cute. They're SO f***ing cute.

Good episode. ****.
