The Gifted "afterMath"

In which I can totally understand why a girl who can turn things inside out can be locked up in the most impenetrable prison. Something BAD must have happened, or the Canaries wouldn't even want her. My imagination goes to all sorts of gory places there.

Blink wasn't always called Blink until this episode? Then why have I been calling her that?

I really hope Caitlin has settled down from her craziness from last week. Her insistence about being all about the mission is a good start, but I'm not convinced that isn't merely inconsistent characterization on the writer's parts. I could be wrong.

I love the notion that one juror was wise enough to refuse to convict the orb girl because "Lights don't hurt anybody". Is it okay if I picture this juror as a tough and proud 98 year old black woman? Because you can't stop me from doing that.

Speaking of which, but it's interesting Erg lost an eye due to prejudice he suffered for being black. In the X-Men Universe, there really IS no protected minority class. Even if there are black people in the Purifiers.

Speaking of the Purifiers, I cannot picture Jace sticking around for too long. His suggestion in the meeting to go around to various hospitals and turn in the fugitives to the authorities was actually a great one, that would engender public trust and accomplish their mission. What Jace doesn't realize is that they don't actually care if they accomplish their mission. Their mission is totally secondary to taking out their violent, racist, sociopathic impulses on Mutants. What frustrate me about Jace not recognizing this for what it is, is that he's a black man. He should already know these kinds of supremacists are not interested in winning over hearts and minds and never were. If Jace were more observant, he'd recognize these same parallels himself.

Normally, I criticize sci-fi franchises for using black men in this manner to prove a point, but I'm not convinced Jace isn't going to figure this out himself. His joining this group might not simply be to say he is actually clueless about bigotry and that black people have as big a blind spot as white people. It may simply be that he's trying to figure this stuff out himself. And it's the fact that he probably will which is why I tend to give the series a pass on doing something like that. I don't feel they are pushing a specific racial button, as least not yet. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

The dying acid Mutant probably should have given Caitlin all of the information he could once he knew he was dying. Of course, that probably would have made him die quicker, but he only passed out a couple of seconds before he could give them useful intel in his first questioning. I would have to think he could have just added a few sentences to describe the psychiatrist and where to find her.

Good week. ****.

Marvel Rising "Kamala Khanfidential: Captain Marvel"

Kamala's enthusiasm is outright infectious. ****.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey's Swiping Makes A Mess With Iron Man!'

Spidey, no swiping! ***1/2.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures "Spidey & Black Panther Use Heroic Humor!"

So Spidey is lecturing adults now?

That old lady had a weird voice.

Should Spidey actually be saying he has an Aunt May in front of other people? Isn't ordering a cake something Peter Parker should do?

Black Panther still isn't funny. ***1/2.

Spider-Man "Spider-Geddon: Spider-Man No 1"

I love the Spider junk joke. Saucy.

I laughed at Spidey bemoaning the 25 dollar tickets to the wax museum, and being outraged Mysterio seemingly got his own wax statue. I also like that he narrowed the culprit down to two enemies but that he and David Blaine had patched things up.

This was fun and funny. ****1/2.

DuckTales "The Ballad Of Duke Baloney!"

This is going to be an amazing season. A World's Richest Duck / Catch As Cash Can story? Sold!

I love that they made Glomgold South African after all. And it was genius to use the fact that Scrooge is ageless to have him trick Glomgold as a kid. I want to find out the deal with that money clip. It sounds important. Did Fergus give it to Scrooge? Possibly.

Lots of Easter Eggs like Scrooge and Flintheart climbing the stone tower to get the Lamp the way they do in the original DuckTales theme song, and a Mouseton shout-out, which is promising to me, and gets my hopes up for a Mouse Ears spin-off someday.

I love that Webby describes the struggle as "Man versus nature" rather than "Duck versus nature", because in the comics the Ducks usually refer to themselves and people and that's how Carl Barks and ESPECIALLY Don Rosa treated them too.

This was an amazing episode. I'm going to love this season. ****1/2.

Elena Of Avalor "Finding Zuzo"

A lot of fun.

I love that after Elena announces the episode title Zuzo says "What? Where'd I go?"

Bobo is bananas. I liked the look the sloth guy gave him upon him giving him the banana crown in exchange for the stripes. It said he thought it was wholly inadequate.

Bobo putting his hand to his ear as the villain screamed very slowly while falling into the pit was a funny sight gag. Frankly, it was SO funny, I'm surprised it was on this particular show.

I love that one of the Zanies is named Steve.

I greatly enjoyed this. ****1/2.

Mickey Mouse "House Painters"

Even Goofy thinks the place is a dump. Speaking of which, Bill Farmer is still killing it. Until this show I didn't know he had that in him.

I like the house putting on shades and riding off on a motorcycle while wearing a leather jacket reading "Homeboy". Funny stuff.

Great episode. ****1/2.

LEGO Star Wars All-Stars "From Trenches To Wrenches: The Roger Story: Lo, I Am Manufactured"

Roger is my favorite Star Wars Droid after AP-5 from Star Wars Rebels. Funny backstory. ****.

LEGO Star Wars All-Stars "From Trenches To Wrenches: The Roger Story: It Gets Ugly"

That's no rock. I see what they did there.

You think ONE Rancor is bad? Try a bunch of them.

I loved Roger saying that isn't what his cowardice is telling him to do. I love Roger.

Funny stuff. ****.

LEGO Star Wars All-Stars "From Trenches To Wrenches: The Roger Story: The Good Stuff"

"I mean, beep boop!" I love Roger. ****.

LEGO Star Wars All-Stars "From Trenches To Wrenches: The Roger Story: The Prisoner Of Tatooine"

A thank you IS nice.

Good to see a Roger adventure from the Freemaker era.

Roger's Jawa is a little rusty.

Battle-Droid's can feel pain? That strikes me as a design flaw.

Funny cartoon. ****1/2.

LEGO Star Wars All-Stars "From Trenches To Wrenches: The Roger Story: The Droid Rescue Gamble"

Oooh, a silver protocol Droid! Who's that?

First Roger cartoon set in the Force Awakens era. What happened to the Freemakers anyways?

Is this the first time Chopper and BB-8 have been in the same cartoon?

Laser blasts cost money? I like the Empire dudes bemoaning cost-cutting. The Emperor is a miser.

Good cartoon. ****.

Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Hypno! Part Deux!"

Since when does April have a magic cat? Did I miss something?

Who wears a knit cap in the summer? Good question.

The fight scene at the end was great.

Pretty good episode. ***1/2.

Transformers: Cyberverse "MacCadam's"

Somebody needs to make a gif of Soundwave breakdancing NOW.

I love that we never actually see MacCadam's other terrifying form. I totally believe this dude used to be one of the original Primes.

Pre-Drift Deadlock? Check! Good stuff coming!

What's a dinosaur anyways? And just like that, the hunt for Grimlock is on! ****.

Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel "Doom Signal"

When Victor and Monty are kidnapped, the Rangers are immediately on the mission to rescue them. See, if it were me, I would have raised the question of whether or not they were worth bothering to rescue. I would have probably done it anyways. But the question would have been raised. For sure.

If that's all the hyno-ray did why did they need Victor and Monty in the first place? If it was going to be broadcast on every channel anyways why did the monsters actually need a human act?

Hayley is wrong in her fight with Calvin because her performance was actually bad? Part of me feels uncomfortable with that. Because it suggests to me that she wasn't actually interested in honest feedback if she didn't believe him. And apparently that's the case. But I think Calvin was acting like a doof. It feels weird to me to say someone that thoughtless actually held the high ground in their fight. But if Hayley is mad simply because she thought he was making her bad performance up, then he does.

Wish we had seen more of Evil Mick. Last week suggested that would be something his actor would really be able to sink his teeth into, and he was barely in the episode. And when he was, he was monotonous rather than evil. It's my own fault for getting my hopes up I think.

Decent week. ****.

The Good Place "A Fractured Inheritance"

Tahani's parents were total wankers.

I found it extremely moving that the reason Eleanor refuses to accept her mother has changed is simply because she wanted that. Why wasn't SHE good enough to change for? And really that's all the understandable reasoning Eleanor needs. I think the show is amazing for having moments like that.

Unfortunately, this is the second episode in a row that is too grounded for its own good. I think if the series isn't careful, people are going to lose interest and the series will be canceled. Series that are canceled in the third or fourth seasons often became that way because to keep things fresh they veered too far from the original premise. That is Sleepy Hollow's epitaph. The difference here is that the show is still good. But I don't know if it was hold the audience's interest the way all of the bonkers surreal stuff in the first two seasons did.

It was a solid episode. I hope I am not alone in that opinion. ****.

Blindspot "Sous-Vide"

Great cliffhanger. Zapata is up to no good.

I absolute adore that Reed knew that Rich was good with dying people because he had been through it before. And suddenly I love Rich more than I ever have. And I already loved him a bunch. It's amazing that because he has a past tragedy that he is so gifted at that specific thing and comforting people who needed it.

Of course Patterson grew up with the Periodic Table Song because her dad is Bill Nye. It's funny that Rich says he lost his virginity to it twice. It was so sad when he sang it when Laurel died. Again, I love the guy.

I didn't know the thing about lemon juice curdling cream. Good to know.

That knock-knock joke where you get the other person to start has always been one of my favorites. I laughed at Rich saying there were no people of color on Friends because that was the thing that always bugged me about it.

Great episode due to Rich's amazing bedside manner. ****1/2.

Van Helsing "Pretty Noose"

I love that Flesh, excuse me Philip Fleischman, resents Julius for siring him. And that Julius totally understands that and remembers to call him Philip from now on. He'll make a good bouncer.

Doc being a virgin is very endearing to me. It also explains why she was acting weird.

The episode focused a lot more on ships and everyday stuff instead of horror and action and it was still pretty good. ***1/2.
