Redemption is great, I guess what I'm asking is, why did Lionel Luthor, the man who killed his parents for the insurance money and spent the last 40+ years as an unrepentant bastard change his ways? By plot device I meant it seemed more like they worked that as part of the plot rather than a natural progression of his character. I bought him falling for Martha, but thinking of Clark as a son felt out of place.
