Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem In The Multiverse
I did not have any expectations going in. I liked it. I very much suspect I'll be alone in that. Mostly because I believe other fan's expectations will have been both sky-high and unmet.
You bring up a DC Multiverse Crossover Event there are some expectations there from most fans. This is a DC Super Hero Girls movie with some Teen Titans Go! nonsense around the margins. That's going to anger some people. Me? I thought the movie itself was solid.
John Stewart's name was misspelled Jon Stewart in the credits. And he didn't even do any joke news. It was neat Phil Lamarr voiced him.
Harley joining the team very much feels like a final episode thing. So people guessing this movie is the finale of that show are probably right.
I love how the continuity was handled. The Teen Titans had met the DC Super Hero Girls many times on their show, but because this movie is from the DC Super Hero Girl's canon, this is the first time they've met the Titans. That nuance in continuity is interesting to me. Similarly, I believe the Superfriends exist in this level of The Multiverse and this franchise. And yet I believe the Superfriends continuity itself has remained unchanged by these events. That's my guess.
DC promised a more mindblowing movie event than they delivered. Personally? I don't even care about that nonsense. My concern is whether it was a good movie. It was a DAMN good one. The stuff with Kara and Clark was all golden and gives us some sorely needed context for his jerkish behavior earlier in the series.
The show making fun of the Batgrowl will never get old. The Matthew McConaughey Aquaman continues to amuse me as well.
If you wanted more from that, I understand. Me? I'm perfectly happy with what we got. I'd go so far as to call it one of the best projects related to Teen Titans Go!. Maybe not as great as the Teen Titans movie or The Night Begins To Shine. But up there. ****1/2.
Teen Titans Go! "Porch Pirates"
I HATE porch pirates. They piss me off.
Ace the Bathound! Neat!
I love Cyborg checking the thing with a hose from his bumbum.
I love that Batman has a statue of Gordon in the fountain that pukes bats.
The land sharks are cute.
This episode was kinda funny but nothing special. ***.
Teen Titans Go! "A Sticky Situation"
I'm not gonna say the show is running out of ideas but I was never demanding a Sticky Joe episode.
I like his Night Begins To Shine Design. I watched Heavy Metal 2000 recently and found it utterly lacking compared to Teen Titans Go!.
The stuff in what was supposed to be the Phantom Zone was weird. That demon was weirdly obsessed with Sweet Home Alabama. We sure that wasn't Cyborg in disguise? He WAS voiced by Khary Payton.
Silkie's back. Or more likely he never left.
Got appearances from Krypto the Superdog, Streaky, and Jonah Hex.
I like that Alfred routinely kisses Batman on the forehead. While he's in costume.
I especially like that Batman owns a version of the game Duck Hunt where Robin is the duck and Joker is the obnoxious and hateful dog.
Hawkman's Nth Metal mace must suck if it can't open a can of beans.
That was better than it had any right to be. ****.
Young Justice: Phantoms "Zenith And Abyss"
Oh, that was a VERY good episode.
Orion's plan to open the boom tube on a world with a red sun was damn smart. Too bad Phantom Girl was so easy to fool.
I love Superman playing things so close to the vest.
On one of the sites I frequented somebody noted that Miss Martian not being in on the initial rescue mission for Conner in the Phantom Zone was dumb because of her personal connection to him. I agree after seeing this. She should have been kept in the loop.
Young Zod's "compliment" to Tomar Re's son means he's a total bastard. He can't win after that. He just can't.
I loved this week. ****1/2.
The Flash "The Curious Case Of Bartholomew Allen"
I think the thing I resent most about the show is that Season 8 Barry Allen is almost as stupid as Season 1 Barry Allen. He makes the exact same kinds of dumbass mistakes and never grows and changes. It's weird they are giving that lesson to Joe here. Barry himself is far more resistant to character growth.
This was the exact problem with Kara Danvers on Supergirl, by the way. Barry is not as stupid as Kara was in Season 6. But it's the same damn problem.
I like that Joe doesn't like the roleplaying game. I'm glad Jesse L Martin was game for the costume at the end, because I actually found it a bit embarrassing.
I mentioned in previous weeks I didn't care about seeing Eddie Thawne again. Singh however is a character I've always liked, and it was good to see him again. I like that he was the one who gave Joe the actual clarity this week.
This show is getting to be a chore to watch. It makes mistakes a show that has been on the air for 8 years simply shouldn't make. I'm getting frustrated. **1/2.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds "Memento Mori"
Great episode.
We don't actually see the Gorn here but we ARE given some context for them. And they are terrifying.
I love that the crew members who die on this show aren't just forgotten. They are given funerals and considered heroes. A far cry from Star Trek's Red Shirt days.
Michael Burnham is indirectly referenced during the mind-meld. Good Discovery continuity.
Hemmer is a very interesting character. I predict he's gonna be a fan-favorite.
This show is knocking it out of the park every week. It has yet to deliver a bad episode. ****1/2.
