I am amused at this negative review over the 2nd season finale:

I want every single person who reads my journal to read these next words:
Game Of Thrones having a shitty ending was NOT a one-off. The entire franchise sucks and is probably the worst franchise that isn't either Titans or Riverdale, or where the showrunner isn't David E Kelley. Like David E Kelley, every single Emmy Game Of Thrones got was totally unearned.
When House Of The Dragon inevitably implodes for a terrible ending every fan will hate, I want you to remember me telling you this. Don't express shock that "they blew it again". This is the only way a franchise this shitty can operate. House Of The Dragon's ending is going to suck and piss EVERYBODY off. Because that's what the franchise is.
I remember somewhere around the fourth season of Game Of Thrones I thought to myself "No matter how this ends, it's gonna suck." And it did. I think my only surprise was that I expected that horrible finale to suck even worse than it did.
That's why it hit the fans so badly. They actually thought the show that spent every week punching them in the face would deliver a satisfying finale. More fools them.
This is not a put-on, or crucible for the heroes to endure on their path to victory. The franchise sincerely sucks this much. George R.R. Martin IS sincerely that terrible of a writer and bad of a person, and nobody involved in the show cares about either the characters or the audience.
Once you have that straight, the show's pretty easy to predict.
Or in my case, it was pretty easy to shut off for fucking good.

It's been awhile since I've reviewed it.
Aug. 5th, 2024 07:07 amBut it is a bit shocking to me how poorly Star Trek: The Next Generation did as far as storytelling is concerned. The scripts for MOST of the run were shockingly incompetent. Like if they were made today you would make fun of them mercilessly.
I will not deny it is responsible for some great science fiction and television. I will not deny how amazing both Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner are. But part of me thinks one of the reasons the show HAD to make the amount of egregious mistakes it made was so future showrunners would know not to make them.
Not Rick Berman though. Both Voyager and Enterprise were far worse, and unlike Next Gen neither show had a bunch of redeeming qualities, or even a backlog of great episodes, much less passable ones.
While I'm pissing y'all off, the same complaint COULD be leveled at The Original Series and I wouldn't fight it so much. Now The Original Series gets a LITTLE more credit for breaking boundaries and actually creating new and unique tropes and high-concepts. But it doesn't stop the writing from feeling a bit shoddy in hindsight.
The only series of the first six Star Trek series that still holds up today is Deep Space Nine. I firmly believe that.

This is no surprise.

David Lynch had to retire from directing because of emphysema.
It pisses me off a bit because it was so predictable. Every time I saw Lynch chain-smoking in a Twin Peaks doc I knew this was coming. Nobody EVER sat the guy down for an intervention about his smoking?
I'm a bit annoyed to be honest. I love David Lynch. I wish he had people in his life who had told him his chain-smoking wasn't edgy and defiant, but stupid.
