Weekly talkback for Gilda And Meek And The Un-Iverse! Read an issue and discuss it here!

Been a couple of weeks. It's Candice's birthday today! Maybe that's put me in an extra Unny mood.

My weekly article below.

GILDA'S COMPLETE (AND BIPARTISAN) DISTRUST OF ALL POLITICIANS

The Gilda And Meek issue "The Apple" puts Gilda and her friends through the emotional wringer, but what's also interesting to me is that after the group blow-up, Gilda reveals to Meek a secret weakness of her b.s. detector: It is positively useless against politicians. While it has never been wrong there, it reads every single politician she's ever met or seen on TV as extremely dangerous and untrustworthy, party and politics be damned. It tells her absolutely nothing if her Spidey-Sense is turned up to 11 on ALL of them.

Gida is a Democrat but she has NEVER once voted for a candidate she ever remotely trusted. She always votes for the lesser evil, and for policy reasons, rather than character reasons.

Am I trying to show a false equivalence between Democrats and Republicans? Am I saying President Randall, the Democratic President during The Terran Wars is the other side of the coin of Vic Puff, the Conduit to Earth's destruction? No. The reality is the reason for the characteristic is mundane. It was done to service a huge plot concern during the climax of The Terran Wars.

Consider the fact that during Gilda's lifetime, and the lifetime of TV in the Un-Iverse (which was invented about the same time as in Our Universe), and the fact that The Un-Iverse shares almost NONE of the recent politicians from Our Universe (save George H.W. Bush who served a single term between 1989 and 1993) you might wonder if this specific b.s. detector weakness effects only Un-Iverse politicians.

Regardless of the fact that I personally like (and even love) many gifted politicians, I can safely say Gilda's detector would have the same problems with the ones in Our Universe too. She'd hate the Bushes and the Clintons. She has a crush on The Un-Iverse's Al Gore (who is an activist there, rather than a politician) and him once being Vice-President in Our Universe would devastate her because she could no longer trust him. She'd have sympathy for Joe Biden's life story, but ultimately think he was not to be trusted either. And the less said about Donald Trump the better. But the question remains: Would there be a single politician in OUR Universe that would pass Gilda's lofty b.s. detector?

Okay, I'm not gonna say he'd EVER pass the detector, but I truly think Gilda would LIKE our Universe's Barack Obama. He might not pass the detector, and she might think he's full of shit deep down, but he's the only politician from our Universe she'd actually like. Why?

Ever seen Obama around kids and babies? THAT'S why. There is something unique and unusual about Obama's positive gravity that Gilda would appreciate. Whether she ultimately trusted him or not. But he is the only politician in Our Universe that is true for.

It's recently gone viral and it's spot-on. I absolute REFUSE to call Gilda And Meek a graphic novel. It's a comic book. I would feel more comfortable with a fan calling it a funnybook before I did a graphic novel.

And if you think Moore's take is too harsh his daughter adds the context he's come to the opinion honestly. And it's very hard to argue with.

To put it another way, I hate it when people insist their fandoms are deeper than they are too.

I don't agree that Donald Trump is charismatic. He's repulsive, ugly, and has a nasally, whiny voice and an annoying New York accent. And he can barely string two words together. I don't buy the argument his followers have been swayed by his charm and attractiveness. The Kid On The Playground Who Eats Worms has his share of admirers too. That doesn't make him charismatic.

Ironically if Trump WERE charismatic and handsome I might be able to forgive his supporters after this is all over, one way or the other. While it is the worst, stupidest, most obvious con ever, I never will.

I was told the Devil would be attractive. I was lied to.

I admire her greatly. She just totally owned and fucked up the defense yesterday. It's not like she hasn't spent her whole career defending herself against being slut-shamed. Did the defense really think on cross she would be so easily rattled by that?
