It's the Man on the street segments that bother me, and they have only been getting worse and worse. Andy Kaufman used to pull pranks on strangers too, but part of the joke there is that the stranger is not aware that what Andy is doing is supposed to funny. It works on a different level for the pranked and the audience. But Andre's shtick is basically walking around half naked and getting all up into people's business. It's not Borat and having the prankee reveal an ugly truth about themselves. It's Andre harassing and violating the personal boundaries of total strangers for "comedy" that is exactly as obvious and unfunny as it first appears.
I think the thing Andre should probably be asking himself is that if he really WAS funny, doesn't he think more people would sign the release forms to unblur their faces on TV than actually do? Most people LOVE prank shows, and love the idea of being on TV unannounced. But if somebody put their junk in my face, I would not be anxious to show my face in front of millions of people while that happens. It's not funny. It's cruel and gross. I never see a prank show with this many blurred faces. You'd think Andre's victims were perps on COPS.
Hannibal Buress deserves better.
