Not gonna be a new episode until the fall so I thought I'd get these thoughts down when I had them.

Bart Simpson is one lucky kid.

I get why Lisa is always so upset with Homer. But Bart couldn't have asked for a better father. Stranglings aside, Homer understands and accepts Bart in a way few fathers would. Bart is a misbehaving kid, mad at the world. Homer understands those impulses, and even shares them to an extent.

Remember when Skinner screwed over Bart on the field trip last season? What did Homer do? Instead of trying to smooth things over with Skinner and change his mind, Homer cooked up a fantastic (and fantastically cruel) revenge prank on Skinner, to share with Bart. You can argue that's bad parenting all you like, but the truth is that was exactly what Bart needed in that moment. I think if Bart had a more "traditional" stern father figure he would be a deeply unhappy kid. Homer doesn't really see anything all that unhealthy about Bart's misbehavior. A "normal" father would have disowned Bart ages ago. Homer is a cool parent.

And Marge is the best mom in the world so he got an even better deal.

Yup. Sometimes I wish I had a father like Homer Simpson.
