And here is the comment, posted for my friends list. It is so true it is almost sad:

quote:

Here is an example of what I found to be the effective rules of political debate:

Rule #1: Whenever a blowup happens due to politics, it's always the liberal's fault.

Rule #2: Being conservative means never having to say you're sorry.

Rule #3: In the event a conservative needs to apologize, any moment of a liberal saying something impolitic, no matter how obscure, must be dredged up to show that "the left is no less guilty than the right". Otherwise you're just being biased. This rule does not apply if the roles are reversed.

Rule #4: Respectful, civilized dialogue shall be defined as follows -

Conservatives can say anything they want, in any manner they want, but liberals have to be mealy-mouthed and deferential. Anything other than this from a liberal is disrespectful and incendiary.

And, to credit a good FB friend, there's now Rule #5 with a corollary:

Conservatives are under no obligation to provide sources to back up any of their claims or arguments, and liberals are not only required to do so, but they must provide sources that the conservatives agree with. In particular, those sources must be found completely free of liberal bias, although it is not the conservative's job to actually vet the source. The conservative is free to decry the source as liberal bias at will and, per the spirit of this rule, without documentation or support.

Corollary to Rule #5: Conservatives are empowered to ignore any and all information in any source that they like. Liberals, on the other hand, are bound not only to factual information from their own sources but also to only information claimed factual by the conservatives.

My sig line also applies with the addendum " It shall also be defined as failure to criticize a liberal at least equally as much as one criticizes a conservative. And conservative bias, by definition, does not exist. There's only liberal bias or fairness and balance.

liberal bias = failure to validate or sufficiently flatter the conservative narrative on any given subject
