I'm sick of people bashing them and I want to set the record straight. Return of the Jedi isn't the highest quality Star Wars film but it's easily the most exciting and fun to watch (and my favorite) and the Ewoks are the best thing about it. Comparisons to Jar-Jar Binks are laughable.

Where to start? Jar-Jar is a Grade A Nuisance who is bumbling and always putting the group in danger because of his rank stupidity. Believe it or not, kids find that as annoying as adults do. Ewoks are not the same thing as Jar-Jar at ALL. A better comparison to Jar-Jar is Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom.

Ewoks are actually useful. Yeah, it's dumb that THEY are the army that defeats the Empire forces on Endor but blame that on the writers, not the characters themselves.

I think to actually appreciate the Ewoks you had to be between 6 and 10 years old when Jedi hit the theaters (I was 8 or 9) to understand how great they were. Any older and you might have gotten a BIT annoyed with them. But if you were a little kid they were awesome. And it's not because they were "cute". Not at all.

The biggest draw for me as a kid was that the Ewoks were low-tech. They fought off the Empire using sticks and rocks and trees. Basically something any kid who lived in the suburbs could find. My friends and I would play Ewoks often because my parents might have thought it not in the best interest of my older sister's noggin to buy me a light saber. Playing Ewoks was free using stuff you found outdoors. You had to get a bit creative with the play too.

I have NEVER been an outdoors person. The closest I ever came was as a kid and around the neighborhood playing Ewoks. I can't even say if my friends were playing to humor me or not (it was a LONG time ago) but it's one of my few pleasant memories from early childhood.

Don't mess with the Ewoks. They are the best.
