We're winning. It's not a sure thing (nothing is) but I have never seen a politician that is as gifted as Obama take on a candidate that is as terrible as Romney before and it feels SO good. This is what Obama's Senate campaign against Alan Keyes must have looked like.
Honestly, it's not enough. I don't want to simply win this election anymore. After all of the violence, naked racism and bigotry, and the stirring up of hatred among the crazies I want a landslide and a wave election in Congress too. One that makes 1994 or 2006 look like a draw. I want Obama to run up the margins, get Speaker Pelosi back, increase our majority in the Senate by two or three seats, and have Harry Reid finally nuke the filibuster so Obama can get things done. I want Congress to then start passing center-left legislation while the crazies scream about the U.S. turning into the second coming of Russia but being perfectly powerless to stop it. And they can pass a few left-left bills too since anything less than the Repubcs getting 100% of what they want is communism anyways so we might as well rub their noses in it.
Basically, they wanted this election to be a referendum of Barack Obama but he's turned it into a referedum of Mitt Romney. But that's not good enough. I want the horrid state of the Republican party exposed to the mainstream for what it actually is and have Conservatism so thoroughly discreditted that only a Repub as sane as Jon Huntsman could get elected anywhere. I want to see them absolutely crushed and demoralized.
I seem to be the only Dem alive though who hopes the Repubs become sane by 2016. Every other Dem I've talked to either believes or wants the GOP to go crazier in 2016 so we can win that election too. But frankly, that's a mistake. It is extremely bad for the country to not have two equally sane functioning political parties and I don't care if it helps us in the short term politically, it's literally destroying the country. I REALLY hope I'm not the only person who wishes Huntsman was the GOP nominee in 2016. I'd be able to sleep better at night even if I wouldn't vote for him.
Unless Huntsman turns out to be Harry Reid's Bain leak which is a theory that is almost too awesome to be true. Then he could run as a Dem and EASILY win our nomination. And I'd probably vote for him in a Dem primary too if he actually had a hand in destroying Romney.
I love this election.
