Enough is enough
Oct. 7th, 2008 04:26 pmThis post has been brewing in me for a couple of days and I apologize in advance to anyone I offend. But this upcoming election has taken a VERY dark turn and there is no-one to blame but McCain and Palin.
Scratch that. This Kos article sums up what's been happening but it notes that McCain himself might not even have realized what he started:

The relevent passage:
"The shocked look on McCain's face yesterday when that person in the crowd yelled he's "a terrorist" said it all. He recoiled as if he never expected to hear something like that. It was the look of a guy who just realized that he might have just gone to a dark place he didn't want to go to. "
I used to think John McCain, for all of his wrong-headed policies was a basically decent human being but he's sold his soul long ago to become president. That "shocked look" tells us that even HE didn't understand exactly where all of this "terrorist" and "treason" talk was going until it was too late.
I refuse to give Sarah Palin any such benefit of the doubt. She is a truly destestable human being and quite obviously enjoys riling up crowds using not so coded hate speech. Pouring over her history is troubling and tells us that McCain has extremely poor judgment in choosing her for the number two spot. I know he wanted Lieberman (ugh) but the fact that he picked her shows a terrible bit of calculation.
I am not afraid for Obama's safety. At all. He's surrounded by professional Secret Servicemen who know exactly what they are doing. No, I wrote this post because it's minority reporters and Obama canvassers who are going to bear the brunt of this hatred and have already started to be targeted.
We are at a crucial moment in our nation's history. If John McCain truly believes he is the best person to lead us out of this mess that Bush got us in, riling up lynch-mobs is NOT the way to go about it.
