I know why people watch cop shows. Shoot-outs and people being roughed up and chased. I know why people watch lawyer shows. You get to see pretty actors use big words that come out of David E. Kelley's Powerbook that he just masturbated all over. Heck, I even know why people watch most doctors shows . Healing the sick is fun to watch, plus pretty actors.
But I can't for the life of me figure out why people watch ER. I've seen it maybe twice but everything about the show is stupid on every single level. I saw the promo for tonight's episode during the Office and I just thought it looked incredibly stupid. They show the glass in the emergency roon being shattered by bullets and it strikes me that that isn't the first time I've seen a promo for the show like this and that it happens on a fairly regular basis.
Fone Bone is going to tell you the truth. Emergency rooms are BORING. I've been to them at least forty or fifty times and believe me I am always the most interesting character in them. They are BORING. NOTHING HAPPENS. The closest thing there is to action in them is XTREME WAITING. They suck all of the life out of a person because it is so mind-numbing. Even the doctors and nurses there know this.
ER is a show which shows all of the doctors and nurses running around trying to save dying people. The doctors from the ERs I have visited wouldn't run if the hospital was on fire.
Look at it this way. What if NBC started a sexy new Friday Night drama about hot young accounting clerks and the life and death decisions they are forced to make? Their offices are routinely shot up by gang bangers and at least two main characters die under tragic circumstances each season? Or how about a show about a man trying for the world's record in the longest fingernail growing competition and the entire series takes place in real time and he is always falling in and out of bed with everybody? Or the life or death struggle of a group of house painters who have to make sure that the paint is completely dry so they can go home and feed their gambling habits and/or drinking problems?
Seriously, America stop watching this show. The longer it's on the air the stupider you are proving people are. It is complete and utter crap.
