Also reviews for the latest episodes of Black Lightning, The Flash, DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, Muppet Babies, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Star Trek: Picard "The Impossible Box"

That was pretty amazing.

Jean-Luc seems pretty forceful that the Borg can't change, but it's his opinion that actually does upon seeing Hugh and what he's trying to do. I love that they hug and treat each other like old friends. The Borg even recognize Picard and are surprised to see him.

I hope Hugh will be okay next week. I really do.

I'm glad Picard rescued Soji. That was a tense ending.

Raffi is burning her bridges for Picard. Picard is asking a lot of her, and it's to her credit she still does it. Her tack with getting her way with her old friend was bold, pushy, unfair, and guaranteed to work. It was also destined to end a friendship.

The "Babe" thing hints Raffi is gay or bisexual. It's about time we had that in the 24th Century. The first five series were totally backwards in that regard.

I loved that episode and I love this series. *****.

Black Lightning "The Book Of War: Chapter One: Homecoming"

Lady Eve calling Tobias Lala's Great White Whale was pretty on-the-nose and clever.

The Pulp Fiction fans in me loves me some mysterious glowing briefcases.

I knew melding the show into Earth-1 would present a problem. The government doesn't actually need a Metahuman program anymore. Now they exist all around the world. The episode mentioned the Crisis but seems to have completely ignored the fall-out from it.

Gravedigger's origin was fantastic though. I don't remember this Wayne Brady from Whose Line. Even the Brady on Chappelle's Show scared me less.

I don't blame Jen giving up on Kahlil after that. I sympathize with Kahlil too, but you can't stay with a guy who might strangle you at the drop of a hat. You just can't.

Solid. ****.

The Flash "Grodd Friended Me"

Generally speaking, I love redemption stories. That was the best thing about Captain Cold. But I'm not sold on giving one to Gorilla Grodd. Why?

Usually if I object to a redemption arc, it's because the character has done far too much evil for me to forgive them, and I don't think they deserve it. That's not it here though. I just think the interesting thing about Grodd, at least this version, is that he's evil. It's a deliberate choice on his end, and that fascinates me. Him second-guessing that makes the character less interesting.

Poor Hartley. I had a feeling Crisis would screw over Pied Piper and I was right. Too good to be true. I'm interested how Team Flash screwed him over since Chester knows, which means it's common knowledge, and generally disapproved of. Color me curious.

Did Chester just say "Thank Rao," at the end? Is he a Kryptonian?

Eva being evil and on the side of Mirror Iris was a bit of a surprise. As a rule I don't think surprises are as essential to fiction as many fans do, but that one was nice because I didn't guess it ahead of time.

The ending is clearly Thawne and he's messing with Nash. The red eyes cannot be read any other way.

Good, but I think Grodd is not a good character to try to redeem. ****.

DC's Legends Of Tomorrow "Mortal Khanbat"

"No point in quitting now." Right, John. Like you were ever gonna quit.

I love that Charlie was Clothos from the Greek Myths. That's neat.

I found Genghis Khan's Horde on scooters less funny than it is lame. That is this show thinking I'll find it more humorous than it actually is.

I don't feel the need for an in-depth review at this time, but I liked it besides the scooter stuff. ***1/2.

Muppet Babies "Wocka By Fozzie / Gonzo's Clean Sweep"

Wocka By Fozzie:

That was very sweet.

Jenny Slate has a very pretty singing voice.

Cute. ***1/2.

Gonzo's Clean Sweep:

"Gonzoed" is my new favorite verb.

I like Summer pointing out that the moon doesn't light up and merely reflects the sun. It's good that while the Babies are playing out their fantasies the kids at home aren't getting the wrong information.

That was also cute. ***1/2.

Episode Overall: ***1/2.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine "Debbie"

Wow, Debbie's Miss Piggy karate really works.

I agree with Rosa that Debbie is an adult who made mistakes she's responsible for, but she's also right that her mom sucks and should be nicer to her. She can pay for her crimes and her mother can still love her. It's not one or the other and it never should be.

The bleep over the sexual stuff Debbie and Rosa would do to Mr. Bean raised a lot of questions for me. Questions I suspect I don't want to know the answer to.

Loved Holt calling Terry "Son" when saying he'll read his tombstone. What a bad@$$ thing to say.

Jake is right that Debbie's wacky shtick will play better once she's a cougar aunt. Vanessa Bayer may be ageless. My patience is not.

That was fun. ****.
