So..... Obama won.

It was a blow-out. I had expected as much. I feel weird though. Everyone else is celebrating in jubilation at the historic nature of this win. All I feel is relief. Shouldn't I be happier? I wanted this so badly. 8 years of Bush have numbed me so much that I feel as if we dodged a bullet tonight. And usually my response to something like that is to take a deep breath and thank the Lord for large favors.

I probably won't be able to fully appreciate what took place tonight until tomorrow morning. Until then, I want to thank everyone on my friends list who voted for Obama. We did it.

The amount of enthusasm about the the whole thing was pretty exotic for me - we just don't care that much about our elections over here. A running theme throughout the news coverage was "okay, so how come we can't pull that off?"

Try having someone as bad as Bush in office for eight years. You'd go nuts too.

The celebrations were like the country had just thrown a powerful dictator out on the street. And we kinda did. I wouldn't have been surprised if Bush actually had any statues made of himself to see them toppled over.

We had Margaret Thatcher for 11 years. Beat that =P

Honestly, Obama's getting more love over here than any of our own political leaders. The only guy who can compare in mass popularity stakes is Boris Johnson (mayor of London), and we don't love him quite the same way. We love him more the way we love Homer Simpson.

Sarah Palin, though, she went down extremely badly over here. "She puts the 'alas' in 'Alaska'", as Tom Baker put it.

Yeah, well, while you guys had Thatcher we had 12 years of Reagan and Bush I. And even if we hadn't, Bush II is so horrible on the dictator scale that there really is no contest between him and Thatcher.
