The Simpsons "Iron Marge"

Also reviews for the latest episodes of Bob's Burgers and Family Guy.

The Simpsons "Iron Marge"

Solid.

I love that Homer and Agnes hate each other. Agnes IS the worst.

The kids don't even know their mother's full name. The reason they feel such shame is because they should.

The idea that Petey was a nightmare bird was a good twist. I guess it wasn't super unpredictable (although it DID surprise me) but it definitely fit.

The effectiveness of the lock pick is a red flag over the Gummi cyanide.

Megan Mullally back as Sarah Wiggum and Dawnn Lewis back as Bernice Hibbert. Good to hear both.

Good week. ****1/2.

Bob's Burgers "Escape From Which Island?"

It should be noted Linda is less an expert on what to do at a cocktail party, and more of an expert at what NOT to do. Each of these hot mess scenarios sound like something she's personally done at some point.

Mr. Fischoeder is an annoying character because all of the bad things he causes are always entirely unnecessary. Bob's reactions to them are funny, but it grates after a dozen seasons.

I'll tell you something. The horror movie stuff on the island was well-boarded and animated. I noticed that because the show almost never is.

I feel like this episode thinks it's funnier than it is. ***.

Family Guy "Baby, It's Cold Inside"

The Shining ending made no sense. Of course the ending to the actual movie The Shining makes no sense either.

I love episodes where Lois is genuinely pissed at Peter for his crap. As for the idea of her forgiving him because she realized she was the Alpha and she didn't actually need her, while I actually imagine that's what the narrative needed to conclude satisfactorily, even if Lois realized that, it didn't means she HAD to forgive him. Didn't care for that.

Seth MacFarlane has been struggling with his voices on American Dad. Stan and Roger take a LOT out of him these days. Stewie and Brian are clearly easy lifts for him, and he seems to be having fun with Stewie's entire run about Guy.

I feel like Joe's popcorn thing is on-brand for the character, but he's done stupid observations like that so often now they've stopped being funny and special, and more of an expectation of the character. The past few years were fun with the writers figuring out new comedy angles for him. The well has clearly run dry there and they're repeating if not the exact same ideas, than the same tropes behind the ideas.

It was pretty good though. Simpsons won Fox Toons tonight. ***1/2.
