The good news and the bad news

The REALLY good news: Alberto Gonzales has FINALLY resigned (although an impeachment would have been preferable).

The REALLY bad news: Bush is likely to appoint MICHEAL FREAKING CHERTOFF as his replacement in a recess appointment. I'm calling Senators Kerry and Kennedy today. If the Dems can't stop this they will prove once and for all that they are absolutely worthless.

The REALLY scary news: a neocon think tank has called for Bush to become permanent ruler of America and the world and the wipe out the Iraqis. And they are totally serious. Link thanks to twistedchick.

Ceasar convinced Huey Freeman to replace his slogan "It's Revolution Time" with "It's Clobbering Time". Well, it's clobbering time.

Bush won't become "permanent ruler" or whatever. They could come frighteningly close to carrying out that kind of plan, but it won't be successful.

Well, he would need the military behind him to bring off a coup. Don't know if he has enough support with the troops to make them obey or not.

The scary thing is he might. There air-force is filled with crazy fundamentalists and they aren't really stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. At the very least an attempted coup could start a civil war.

The fact that there's no legal means for him to do it is one reason it wouldn't happen. The fact that he'd need a much better approval rating to get enough people on his side is another.

He (and Congress) have given him enough power to make an attempt feasible. And frankly, the amount of people I see rioting if that happens is very few. People are too absorbed with their Ipods and American Idol to actually give a crap anymore. People don't care about the world's problems unless it effects them personally.

Well that's kind of selling the American people short. Even if you are right, campaigns for the 2008 election have been underway for quite a while now, and there are some very influential people who have spent a ton of money on it. I don't see them hanging back and watching while Bush attempts to take over.

I have zero faith in the American people. There, I said it. That's probably not the thing to say to try to win voters over to your side but it's true. To be honest, at this point I have zero faith in the Democratic Congress too.
